Philosophy of Teaching

I chose to become an elementary school teacher because it is my passion to motivate and encourage young, developing students to become polite, caring people who are inspired to learn. As a teacher I hope to affect my students’ lives by teaching them that they can achieve anything to which their hearts are set with personal desire, hard work, and positive thinking.

As a teacher, I strive to instill a sense of confidence and self-achievement in each of my students. I encourage my students to believe they can achieve success in anything to which they set their mind with optimism, compassion, respect, hard work and dedication. Expectations are high and attainable in my classroom as I push their academic minds toward achievement while constantly offering encouragement. This strengthens students’ self-awareness of their potential to learn, which will help build their confidence, ambition, and ideally, love of learning. My classroom environment is respectful and community-centered in order to create a safe and comfortable learning environment where mistakes can be made and learning can flourish. I want each student to leave my classroom with confidence and awareness that they deserve to be respected and treated well if they, in return, respect others. I am determined to help each of my students succeed as often as possible.

Over the years, I have come to realize that teaching is truly where my heart lies. I envision my classroom as a place where learning is joyous, students feel encouraged to challenge themselves, every student is given equal respect from their peers and I, and students feel comfortable to explore their social and intellectual world. It is my passion and I find myself fully devoted to any task that involves children and their education. Knowing I can make a positive impact on students’ educational, social, and personal lives motivates and inspires me to be a teacher.
